Understanding Activity Types

Create and use activity types for categorizing your time entries.

A carrier billing reviewer scanning your invoice wants to see a clear breakdown: how much was inspection, how much was report writing, how much was travel. A line that just says "5 hours" gets flagged. A line that says "Inspection - 3 hrs" and "Report Writing - 2 hrs" gets approved.

Activity types do two jobs at once. They make your invoices look professional and pre-empt the kickback emails, and they let you run reports later to see where your time actually goes. Most appraisers who track activity types for the first time are surprised by how much of the week is research and admin versus inspection.

Useful for any appraiser who bills hourly. Especially useful if you work for multiple carriers whose billing review staff each want slightly different categorization.

Common Activity Types

  • Inspection - On-site property inspection
  • Travel - Driving to/from inspections
  • Report Writing - Preparing the appraisal report
  • Research - Policy review, comparable research
  • Negotiations - Discussions with opposing appraiser
  • Administrative - Emails, phone calls, scheduling

Managing Activity Types

Go to Settings → Activities to create, edit, or archive activity types. Each type can have a default description that auto-fills when selected.
