Sending Umpire Selection Request

How to send a list of umpire options to the opposing appraiser.

Intermediate5 min readUpdated 2024-12-06

Once you and the opposing appraiser agree that an umpire is needed, the next problem is picking one. You probably have a short list of umpires you trust, they have theirs, and there is usually no overlap. Hashing this out over email creates a thread that drags on for days, with reply-all chains and attached resumes that nobody can find later.

The selection workflow turns that mess into a structured exchange. You pick three or four candidates from your umpire directory, send the list, and the opposing appraiser either accepts one of yours or proposes their own. Every step is logged on the appraisal, every candidate's contact info is right there, and the umpire who ultimately gets selected is automatically linked to the case so the rest of the umpire flow (panel declaration, inspection date, award signing) just works.

No more digging through old emails for an umpire's phone number. The selection lives on the file with the rest of the case history.
