Connect Your Gmail Account

How to generate a Gmail app password and connect your Gmail account to send emails from AwardLettr.

Beginner3 min readUpdated 2026-04-10

When AwardLettr sends an email on your behalf from a generic no-reply address, two bad things happen. Opposing appraisers and adjusters get a message from a sender they do not recognize, which lands in spam more often than you would expect, and any reply they hit Reply on goes nowhere useful. You only find out something stalled when someone calls a week later asking why you never responded.

Connecting your Gmail account fixes both. Every booking confirmation, status update, and award notification leaves AwardLettr looking like it came straight from you, john at yourfirm dot com, because it actually did. Replies land in your real Gmail inbox AND in your AwardLettr Messages tab, so nothing falls through the cracks and your sent folder shows the full trail.

This is essential for any appraiser who wants emails to look professional, avoid spam folders, and keep replies visible in the inbox they already check all day.

Connect your Gmail account to AwardLettr so you can send emails directly from your own email address. Recipients will see emails coming from you, not from AwardLettr.

You will need to create an "app password" — this is a special password just for AwardLettr. It is NOT your regular Gmail password. Your regular password is not affected.

Prerequisites

  • A Gmail or Google Workspace email account
  • 2-Step Verification must be enabled on your Google account (we'll show you how below)

Step 1: Enable 2-Step Verification

If you already have 2-Step Verification enabled, skip to Step 2.
1

Go to your Google Account

Open https://myaccount.google.com and sign in.

2

Navigate to Security

Click "Security" in the left sidebar.

3

Find "2-Step Verification"

Under "How you sign in to Google", click "2-Step Verification".

4

Follow the setup wizard

Google will walk you through adding a phone number or authenticator app. Complete the setup.

Step 2: Generate an App Password

1

Go to App Passwords

Visit https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords (you may need to sign in again).

2

Name your app password

In the "App name" field, type "AwardLettr" and click "Create".

3

Copy the password

Google will show a 16-character password (like "abcd efgh ijkl mnop"). Copy this password — you'll need it in the next step. You won't be able to see it again.

Copy the app password immediately. Google only shows it once. If you lose it, you'll need to generate a new one.

Step 3: Connect in AwardLettr

1

Go to Settings → Integrations

In AwardLettr, navigate to Account Settings → Integrations.

2

Find "Email Connection"

The Email Connection card is at the top of the integrations page.

3

Select "Gmail"

Choose "Gmail" from the Email Provider dropdown.

4

Enter your email

Type your full Gmail address (e.g., john@gmail.com or john@yourfirm.com for Google Workspace).

5

Paste the app password

Paste the 16-character app password you generated in Step 2.

6

Click "Connect Email"

AwardLettr will verify your credentials by connecting to Gmail's servers. If successful, you'll see a green "Connected" confirmation.

Test Your Connection

After connecting, click "Send Test Email" to verify everything works. You should receive a test email in your Gmail inbox within a few seconds.

Troubleshooting

"Could not connect to email server" — Double-check that you pasted the app password (not your regular Gmail password). Make sure 2-Step Verification is enabled. Try generating a new app password if the first one doesn't work.
"App passwords" option not showing — This means 2-Step Verification is not enabled. Go back to Step 1 and enable it first.
